Skechers Manawa Bay: retail electrical fit-out

About the job
The brief
Livewire Electrical Ltd was appointed by FSL Construction & Interiors to undertake electrical upgrades for the Skechers retail store at Manawa Bay Premium Outlets in Auckland. The scope covered pre-wire installation, fit-off to a specific detailed lighting design, working alongside the structural engineer to meet seismic standards, power points and data, and installation of speakers and feature lighting.
The challenges
- Extremely tight deadlines for store handover ahead of the outlet centre's publicised opening.
- A very large construction site with multiple trades and health and safety requirements all working to the same deadline.
- Changes to the seismic and lighting design during the fit-out.
How we handled it
All material orders were pre-planned, measured and quantified before work started. The team worked to minor milestones through the fit-out so everything landed before store handover, with regular communication between the project manager, lead electrician, engineers and suppliers so problems were mitigated quickly.
The outcome
Skechers handed over to the main contractor on time and the store was stocked ahead of the Manawa Bay opening day. The electrical works came in on budget, with excellent feedback from the health and safety manager and the end client. The team was led by Kent Griffin with the installation managed by Brendon Chappell, supported by Livewire electricians and apprentices.
