Heat pump installation in Auckland needs a dedicated circuit from the switchboard, the right circuit protection and an isolator at the outdoor unit, all done by a licensed electrician. Livewire Electrical checks the switchboard capacity and cable run before quoting, gives one fixed price, and issues a Certificate of Compliance on every install across West Auckland, the North Shore and Central Auckland.

The circuit is run, the isolator fitted and the unit connected to the manufacturer specification.

The system is tested with you and the Certificate of Compliance is issued.
Start with the switchboard
A heat pump is one of the bigger loads in a house, and it needs a dedicated circuit back to the switchboard. Before we quote, we check the board has spare capacity and the right protection.

FAQs
Got questions? We've answered the most common ones here.
Do I get a Certificate of Compliance for a heat pump?
Yes. A new heat pump circuit is prescribed electrical work, so it has to be done by a registered electrician and signed off with a Certificate of Compliance. We send it after the install. Keep it with your house records; insurers and buyers ask for it.
How long does the electrical side of a heat pump install take?
Normally two to four hours for a single unit: running the circuit from the switchboard, fitting the isolator and connecting the unit. A long cable run, a difficult ceiling space or a switchboard that needs work first adds time, and we tell you that in the quote.
Can you do the electrical work for a heat pump I have bought elsewhere?
Yes. If a heat pump company is supplying and mounting the unit, we run the dedicated circuit, fit the outdoor isolator, connect the unit to their specification and issue the Certificate of Compliance. We coordinate the timing with your installer so the power is ready when they are.
Will my switchboard handle a heat pump?
Usually, but we check before we quote. Older boards with ceramic fuses or no spare ways often need an upgrade or a sub-board before a heat pump circuit can go in. The check is part of the quote visit, so you know the full cost up front rather than finding out on install day.
Does a heat pump need its own circuit?
Yes. A heat pump runs on a dedicated circuit from the switchboard with its own breaker, sized to the unit, plus an isolating switch next to the outdoor unit so it can be shut off safely for servicing. Running it off an existing power circuit is not compliant and trips breakers.
