ACG Parnell College: multi-building electrical upgrade

About the job
The brief
Livewire Electrical Ltd was appointed by Q Interiors Ltd (Q Group) to undertake electrical upgrades for ACG Parnell across multiple buildings and classrooms. The scope covered installation of new conduit, batten lighting and LED lighting, relocating existing lights and occupancy sensors, upgrading the distribution board in the power room, isolation work, data cabling to the new server in the storage room, and emergency lighting including relocation in the auditorium.
The challenges
- Working around multiple trades on a busy site.
- Changes to plans and specifications after project kick-off.
- Tight timeframes and deadlines during the school holidays.
- Site access and parking restrictions across trades and teachers.
- Working at height for auditorium lighting and audio.
How we handled it
Planning ahead with the project manager to work around existing trades, clear communication around changes to specified fittings, confirmed working hours on site with additional team members brought in to finish quickly, and scissor lifts for safe, efficient access at height instead of ladders.
The outcome
A zero injury and near-miss record, and a team that exceeded expectations during an unanticipated safety audit. Scissor lifts delivered time savings on the installations at height. The project received excellent feedback from the end client. The team was led by Kent Griffin with the installation managed by Brendon Chappell, supported by Livewire electricians and an apprentice.
